We started with a preparatory station and then a viva.

Candidate’s instructions.
This is a viva station.
You are an SpR. Your Consultant has been asked to provide a doctor to talk to a class of 16-year-old boys and girls about chlamydia.
You have this preparatory station to prepare your thoughts.
The examiner will ask you a series of questions.

Examiner’s instructions.
Ask the following questions.
  1. How will you prepare for the talk?
  2. What teaching method will you use?
  3. What topics will you include?
  4. What else will you consider doing?

Then we had a role-play about pre-pregnancy counselling for a woman whose brother has Fragile X syndrome. This topic has not come in the essays or the OSCE, but, I am sure, will do one day. It is a nightmare as there is so much to discuss.
It needs a lot of practice. If you can do it competently, other "genetic" stations will hold little terror!

Next we had a station in which you were asked to teach a FY1 about PPH managemnt.
It seems an easy station until you tackle it.

Next we had a roleplay.

Candidate’s Instructions.

You are a 5th. year SpR. You are about to see Mrs. Mary Fecund in the gynaecology clinic. There is referral letter from the GP.
Read the letter and then conduct the consultation with Mrs. Fecund as you would do in the clinic in your hospital.
